Fatherland

German version with Italian subtitles Fatherland focuses on the relationship between Nobel Prize-winning author Thomas Mann (Hanns Zischler) and his daughter Erika (Sandra Hüller), an actress, writer, and rally driver. In August 1949, at the peak of the Cold War, father and daughter embark on a demanding and exciting car trip across post-war Germany in a black Buick from Frankfurt controlled by American forces to Weimar under Soviet control. After sixteen years of exile in the United States, Thomas Mann must come to terms not only with his homeland but also with the loss of his family home and his former world.
