Fatherland

German version with Italian subtitles Fatherland focuses on the relationship between Nobel Prize-winning author Thomas Mann (Hanns Zischler) and his daughter Erika (Sandra Hüller), an actress, writer, and rally driver. In autumn 1949, at the height of the Cold War, father and daughter set out for an ambitious and thrilling road trip in a black Buick through post-war Germany, from Frankfurt controlled by American forces to Weimar under Soviet control. After sixteen years of exile in the United States, Thomas Mann has to reckon not only with returning home but also with his own past.
